ANTI-MICROBIAL COATING


The product we use is a semi-gloss clear, protective lacquer. It incorporates an antimicrobial surface modifier (nano silver particles) which inhibits the growth of bacteria and microorganisms. It has excellent adhesion to brass, bronze, copper, stainless steel and other metals. It is suitable for all types of applications.

SILVER AS ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT


Throughout history, silver has consistently been used to restrict the spread of human disease by incorporation into articles used in daily life. The ancient Greeks and ancient Egyptians used silver in their daily lives. Ancient Greek used silver for stomach pains or wound healing. Ancient Egyptians also used silver in their medicine therapy, but they took it one step further by storing their fruits and vegetables in silver plates and bowls.  Among its many useful properties, silver is recognized to have antimicrobial activity.  To date,  it is used on surfaces in hospitals and in water cleaning systems. There are three known mechanisms by which silver acts on microbes:

*Silver cations can form pores and puncture the bacterial and viral cell walls by reacting with the peptidoglycan component.

*Nano Silver ions can enter into the bacterial and viral cells, both inhibiting cellular respiration and disrupting metabolic pathways resulting in generation of reactive oxygen species.


*Once the silver has penetrated through the cell walls. It destroys the DNA and RNA replication cycles. Leaving the cell no chance to reproduce and ultimately the cell begins to die.

Test Results


Lab tests were conducted on the product used by GermSTOP Solutions. 

Laboratory tests were conducted by Industrial Microbiological Services Ltd (Stafford UK) in January & June of 2020.  

Test used was based on MOD ISO 22196 (Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces)

The purpose of this test was to determine the antibacterial activity of antibacterial-treated plastics, and other non-porous, surfaces of products.

Results showed that there was over 99.7 to 99.99% reduction in e-coli & staph aureus bacteria after coming into contact with various panels treated with the GermSTOP Solutions spray. From a concentration of at least 10,000+ CFU /cm2 to below detection limits in a 24 hr period.
